A farmer has been arrested in central Greece for a video she uploaded on TikTok, calling her protesting colleagues to a true uprising and violence against politicians, policemen and journalists.
The 53-year-old woman was arrested on Thursday and was brought before the prosecutor of Lamia, central Greece, on Friday.
In her video on TikTok that had several thousands of views, the woman was speaking in support of the farmers’ and livestock breeders’ protests across the country.
However, it seems that she went a step further using expressions that “incited to commit crimes and acts of violence,” something forbidden by the law.
She was calling that police officers, journalists, politicians and judicial officials “to be beaten with sticks.”
According to local media lamiareport.gr, in many of her videos, which have been viewed thousands of times, she takes a stand for the agricultural uprising and, in some cases, she turns against police officers, journalists, politicians and judicial officials, urging her followers to beat them and stressing “we have nothing to lose.”
“I am a farmer and my speech is only political,” the woman managed to say in front of the camera during her handcuffed arrival at the Lamia District Court Prosecutor’s Office on Friday.
According to her lawyers, she is accused of misdemeanors, specifically for violence against a judicial officer and incitement to commit crimes, acts of violence or discord.
The Lamia District Court Prosecutor will rule whether the specific offenses have actually been committed and will decide on her further criminal treatment.
Her case was postponed to December 15, 2025, and until then she will remain in custody since she is “consider as dangerous to commit similar acts, even using another electronic mean (tablet or computer.) . Until then, her detention is maintained, as it is considered dangerous for her to commit similar acts using another electronic means (tablet or computer), as her mobile phone has been confiscated.
According to a statement issued by the Greek Police, the farmer was identified through the Cyber-crime Prosecution Directorate.
“The 53-year-old woman posted a video on social media, where she appears to make insulting comments against the Greek government and a senior judicial official, while inciting her followers to commit acts of violence against police officers in the context of the rural mobilizations,” the police statement added.
