Dr Themistocles Kritikakos’s book on genocide recognition launched in Melbourne

Over 80 people turned out for the Melbourne Launch of Dr Themistocles Kritikakos’s latest book ‘Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian Genocide Recognition in Twenty-First-Century Australia: Memory, Identity and Cooperation’.

The launch took place on Tuesday 10 March at the Greek Centre in Melbourne as part of the Greek History and Culture Seminar Series.

The event was hosted by Dr Nick Dallas and the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria. The book was launched by Professor Joy Damousi, who also led a discussion with Dr Kritikakos, based on the themes of the book.

The conversation explored topics like how memories of the Armenian, Greek and Assyrian genocides have been transmitted across generations in Australia and how cooperation between the three communities developed in campaigns for recognition.

The event was attended by members of the Armenian, Greek and Assyrian communities, representatives of community organisations, local government representatives, academics and other guests of the wider public.

Representatives from organisations including the Australian Assyrian Arts and Literature Foundation, Sayat Nova Armenian Association, the Armenian Community Centre, and the Beth-Nahrain Assyria Association were also present.
