Archbishop Makarios of Australia met with the prime minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on Monday, November 3, in Athens.

The Archbishop, accompanied by Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne, was warmly received by the Greek PM at the Maximos Mansion.

The meeting took place in a cordial and constructive atmosphere, with discussions focusing on matters of mutual interest, particularly the needs of the Greek community in Australia. Special attention was given to the issue of finalising a double taxation agreement between Greece and Australia, which the prime minister indicated is expected to be successfully concluded soon.

Additionally, the archbishop briefed Mitsotakis on the activities and work of the Orthodox Church in Australia, reaffirming the Church’s commitment to preserving the Greek identity of the diaspora and further strengthening their ties with the homeland.
