Sataplia marks 100 Years with an eco tour for school students

In connection with the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the cemetery, an ecotour was held for local school students. Besik Amiranashvili, chairman of the Protected Areas Agency, joined Ekoturi.

The Agency of Protected Areas of Georgia shared the glimpses of the meeting on its Official Facebook Page on December 13, 2025, Saturday. The Agency also shared a small note about the meeting, along with its glimpses, and noted that 100 years have passed since the discovery of the cemetery.

According to the note shared by the Agency of Protected Areas, it should be noted that in 1925, a teacher from Kutaisi and naturalist Petre Chabukiani discovered the honeycomb.

Honey is distinguished by its special historical and cultural significance, starting from the traces of dinosaurs from the prehistoric era, 120 million years ago, to the varied Karstian vine.

With a unique Kolkata forest, panoramic views, hiking trails, a museum, and a dinosaur park, Satapflia attracts guests of all ages and hosts tens of thousands of visitors every year.

The visitor center and exhibition space, which opened in 2011, significantly increased the tourist potential of the location.

From 2015 to today, a large-scale rehabilitation of infrastructure has been carried out in Sataplia: the dinosaur park was renovated, and new models were added, a children’s entertainment zone was set up, tourist trails were rehabilitated, the lighting system of the vineyard and the panoramic glass roof were renewed. More than 4 million GEL was invested by the Protected Territories Agency in the projects.

The Agency of the Protected Areas continues to develop Sataplia as one of the most important tourist attractions in the Imereti region, to make travel even more diverse and exciting for visitors.
