The Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, visited the construction site of the Dominica International Airport in Wesley on January 8, 2026, Thursday, where he interacted with the engineers and the workers to get the updates on the timeline of the project.
Following the interaction, he provided updates on the progress and timeline of the DIA. Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit shared that everything is going well and at right pace.
Sharing the timeline of the project, the leader stated that the construction is scheduled to be finished in the last quarter of 2027.
The Prime Minister Skerrit shared a video of his official site visit to the International Airport project on his social media handles. He highlighted the benefits of the project, saying that the airport would be a game-changer for Dominica.
Benefits of the Dominica International Airport
Dominica’s leader noted, “This would be a major achievement even to the point that we have gotten to thus far is a major achievement for, and one can only appreciate the kind of positive transformation that this effort will bring to Dominica.”
The minister also stated, that with the completion, Dominica will receive direct flights from New York, New Jersey, and Miami. This will significantly increase access to Dominica.
He said that it has been the country’s good fortune to have several airlines like Caribbean Airlines making up for inter-relation, which offers direct connectivity with Trinidad and Tobago, leading a boost in visitor arrivals.
The Prime Minister said that the airport will play a great role in taking the citizens of Dominica to another level of economic growth, securing more foreign exchange for the country. It will create new jobs and generate opportunities for local farmers, taxi operators, and other service providers.
The Prime Minister said that every sector of the economy will benefit directly from the project.
“Attention must be made to ensure the country actively benefits from this, which can only happen through positive and constructive engagement,” he added.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit is optimistic with the outcome of this ongoing project.
