As the tourist season approaches, the National Food Agency activates the state control of public catering facilities at winter resorts. Authorities of the Agency’s Mtskheta-Mtianeti Department are checking properties in Kazbegi municipality, Gudauri, and Pasanauri, where there are special crowds in winter.
The National Food Agency of Georgia shared the snippets of the inspection works on its official Facebook Page on December 17, 2025, Wednesday.
Adherence to sanitary and hygienic standards, proper conditions for storage, manufacturing, and realization of raw and finished food, deadlines, labeling, Haspi implantation, registration in the financial register are the main requirements that business operators should meet.
Along with state control, agency inspectors constantly issue recommendations and inform business operators of food safety requirements.
According to the statement of Giorgi Shiolashvili, the head of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Department of the National Food Agency, the state control in the Georgian Highlands showed that the awareness and responsibility of business operators have significantly increased.
“The majority of the facilities are organized and meet food safety requirements. It is noteworthy that some of the public catering establishments arranged by foreigners, which have been sanctioned several times in the past years, are now functioning properly and in full compliance with Georgian law; however, illegal activities remain a challenge, which is increasing especially during the holiday season,” noted Giorgi Shiolashvili.
The National Food Agency checks public food facilities throughout the country throughout the year. Considering the seasonality, it is important to check out resort areas where, along with the local population, there are a lot of tourists.
This year, state control was conducted in up to 7000 public catering facilities, and up to 1600 violations were revealed.
The National Food Agency calls on local and foreign citizens to register as business operators and carry out business in accordance with the legislation of Georgia.
