Georgia’s U23 Judo Team wins 6 medals at EU Championship

Georgia’s under-23 judo team won six medals at the European Championship, and the championship was celebrated in mixed team competition.

The under-23 judo team competed at Chishinyov’s European Championship and won medals. In addition, the boys’ team took second place in the overall medal count and the championship in the mixed team.

The best result from our team was Giorgi Jabniashvili (-90 kg), who defeated Spanish, Portuguese, and Azerbaijani rivals with Japan and got the right to compete in the final. Jabniashvili defeated Moldovan Mikhail Latishev with a yuko in the gold medal match and sang the national anthem of Georgia.

Mate Gogoberishvili (-60 kg) was close to the championship, but after winning against Turkish, Israeli, and Polish opponents, unfortunately, he lost to Armenian representative Vahe Aghasyan.

Mate Beruashvili (-73 kg) held four matches before the final. He won the Slovak, Kosovo, and Italian rivals, and in the semifinals he won a historic victory against Portugal competitor Otar Kvantidze, but in the decisive match he lost to Romanian Ioan Dzitac and ended the competition with a silver medal.

Kote Kapanadze (-81 kg) added bronze to the medal collection of the Georgian national team, who took two Vazars from Greek Zaragka in the third place.

Shalva Gureshidze took third place (+100 kg). The Georgian heavyweight won a hard-fought victory in the match for the bronze medal against Daniel Udzilauri, a competitor on behalf of Germany.

Notably, Nino Loladze (-57 kg) defeated Bulgarian Snejana Gramatikova with two wickets in the bronze final and became the winner of the championship.

At the end of the championship today, Tatami gave up a mixed team tournament, and the Georgian team (Giorgi Terashvili, Nino Tsiklauri, Giorgi Jabniashvili, Lizi Kvartskava, Shalva Gureshidze, Nino Loladze) competed in it. In the mixed team, our judoists first defeated Romania 4-2, then Turkey 4-1, and in the gold medal match, they won 4-3 against France and became the champions of the tournament for the second time in a row.
