Georgia indicts three for large-scale methadone trafficking

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has indicted three persons on the fact that they have committed group efforts to promote the realization of especially large quantities of narcotics and attempts to promote the realization.

The Georgian Prosecution Service shared the details of this heinous crime through its official Facebook Page. The police department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case. 

According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the defendants evaluated a huge quantity of the drug “Methadone” for illegal realization and placed them in different locations.

Law enforcers seized the drug “Methadone” valued at 73 packs from various locations in Tbilisi during the personal conversation of the accused.

Two of the detainees were charged under Article 260, Part 5, Subparagraphs “b” and “e” and Article 6, Subparagraph “a” (facilitation of the illegal sale of a particularly large amount of narcotics by a group by prior agreement, by a person convicted of a drug crime) of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which provides for up to 20 years or life imprisonment as the form and extent of punishment.

One person is charged under Article 260, Part 4 and 19, Article 260, Part 6, Subparagraph “a” of Article 260, Part 6 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (Promotion of illegal sale of narcotic drugs and attempt to promote illegal sale of narcotic drugs in a particularly large amount) was presented, which also provides for imprisonment for up to 20 years or life imprisonment.

Based on the prosecutor’s motion, the court has already sentenced the defendants to imprisonment as a preventive measure.
