The Emergency Medical Team (EMT-1) of the Emergency Coordination and Ambulance Center has received the International Classification of the World Health Organization.
The granting of classification was led by an international verification process, which the team successfully passed. This status confirms that the team is fully in compliance with international standards and possesses the necessary capabilities to respond effectively in emergencies.
The Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia shared glimpses of the event on its official Facebook page on June 30, 2026, Tuesday. The Georgian Health Ministry also shared a small note about the event along with its glimpses.
The Minister of Health Mikheil Sarjveladze attended the ceremonial event. According to the Minister, the existence of an emergency medical team that meets international standards is a significant achievement for the country. According to him, the classification received is not only a recognition of the high quality of the center’s activities, but also a confirmation of its development, strengthening, and professionalism of the employees.
The awarding of the certificate was led by the visit of the World Health Organization EMT international assessors group, during which specialists assessed the team’s readiness and operational capability.
During the visit, EMT-1 field simulation training was held on the territory of Tbilisi Sea. The purpose of the training was to test the speed of response, coordination, and the effectiveness of resource management in emergencies and large-scale disasters.
By receiving international classification, the Georgian Emergency Medical Team is allowed to participate, if necessary, in both local and international humanitarian and emergency medical missions.
The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Health Tea Giorgadze, Director of Emergency Situations Coordination and Emergency Help Center Nikoloz Chikovani, international EMT experts, and center staff.
