On the initiative of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, organized by the Scientific and Research Center of Agriculture, and supported by the City Hall of Dedopliskaro Municipality, the festival “Alooba 2026” was held in the central park of Dedopliskaro Municipality.

The festival is dedicated to promoting endemic species of Georgian wheat, local breads and centuries-old culture, traditions and rituals. Within the framework of the “From Seed to Bread” concept, thematic exhibition and ethnographic spaces, exhibition and sale of local entrepreneurs’ products, traditional cooking masterclasses, wine tasting and cognitive activities for children were organized.

“Our goal is to once again introduce the public to the importance of Georgia as one of the oldest centers of wheat origin, to emphasize the need to protect Georgian endemic species and local varieties, and to preserve for future generations the unique agrobiodiversity, which is one of the most important assets of our country,” said Levan Ujmajuridze, Director of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center.

During the festival, in the exhibition space of the Agricultural Scientific and Research Center, samples of endemic species and local varieties of Georgian wheat and curry, scientific publications, information materials and wines from rare Georgian grape varieties protected on the basis of Jighaura were presented. Guests had the opportunity to learn about the Center’s activities in the search, protection, conservation and research of genetic resources of plants.

The festival was attended by the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture Davit Songulashvili, representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, academic circles and the private sector, scientists, farmers and citizens interested in Georgian wheat culture.
