NPP Denies Offering Positions to KMC Mayor –

The National People’s Party (NPP) has dismissed claims that it offered the positions of Vice President and Minister of Trade to Mr. Talib Ahmed Bensouda, as alleged in a recent interview by Mr. Kemo Bodjang of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC).

In the interview, Mr. Bodjang said he attended a meeting where the NPP Secretary General and Party Leader purportedly made the offers. The NPP described the claims as “false and unfounded.”

A statement signed by Seedy S.K. Njie, Deputy Spokesman of the NPP and released to the media on Sunday, said the party has never engaged in negotiations with Mr. Bensouda regarding joining or aligning with the NPP. It further clarified that the Party Leader has not met with him or offered any positions.

The statement added that since 2021, no party member has been authorised to negotiate on matters related to the Vice President’s position. Any individual claiming otherwise acted without the knowledge or approval of the Party Leader.

“Official negotiations, where necessary, are conducted strictly by a team formally appointed by the Party Leader. No such team was ever constituted in relation to Mr. Bensouda,” the party said.

The NPP leadership stressed that it remains unaware of any purported negotiations involving Mr. Bensouda or his associates. While mobilising support through established structures, the party emphasised that all engagements must comply with official policy.

In a separate development, the NPP expressed gratitude to President Adama Barrow for launching the NPP Women’s Enterprise Fund, describing it as a “significant milestone” aimed at empowering women.
