A 25-year-old man has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm after he was arrested over an alleged bottle attack at a construction site in Ebo Town, police have said.

According to the Gambia Police Force, the incident followed a dispute after the suspect allegedly attempted to join a group of workers at the construction site.

Police said the disagreement escalated into a physical confrontation during which the complainant was allegedly attacked with a broken bottle, leaving him with injuries.

The victim was escorted to a health facility, where he received medical treatment.

Investigators said officers were alerted by a witness who reported seeing the suspect nearby shortly after the incident.

Police responded immediately and pursued the suspect, who allegedly attempted to evade arrest before he was found hiding inside an unfinished building.

Officers said they recovered a hoe from the suspect at the time of his arrest and secured it as part of the investigation.

The suspect has since been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm, and a case file has been prepared and forwarded for the necessary legal process.

The Gambia Police Force thanked members of the public for providing timely information that led to the suspect’s arrest and urged citizens to continue reporting criminal and suspicious activities.

Police also reminded the public to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful means rather than violence.
