Kinteh Kunda Lower Basic School in Lower Badibou, North Bank Region, recently held its annual Speech and Prize Giving Ceremony to recognize and reward outstanding students from Early Childhood Development (ECD) Level 2 to Grade 6.

The ceremony, a key event on the school’s academic calendar, provided an opportunity for parents, guardians, and community members to witness and celebrate their children’s achievements.

The day was marked by excitement, pride, and reflection, serving as a celebration not only for the award recipients but for everyone who has contributed to the students’ academic journey.

Outstanding students received a variety of prizes, including exercise books, pens, pencils, and school bags in recognition of their academic performance and discipline.

Chairperson of the School Management Committee (SMC), Karamo K. Kinteh, praised both teachers and parents for their commitment to the educational development of their children.

He emphasized the importance of education and urged parents to enrol their children in both conventional and Arabic schools, noting that the government highly values inclusive education. He also expressed gratitude to diaspora and community members for their financial, material, and human resource support.

Chairman Kinteh further encouraged parents to continue instilling moral values in their children and to remain steadfast in support of their educational journey.

Chief Fabala Fadia Kinteh of Lower Badibou highlighted the school’s longstanding legacy since its establishment in 1932.

He noted that the school has produced numerous individuals who have gone on to serve in various capacities within the civil service and contribute significantly to national development. Chief Kinteh commended the staff and SMC for their dedication, noting significant improvements in school discipline.

Fatou S. Jaw, an headmistress in the school extended her appreciation to the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) through the Regional Education Directorate in Region 3 (Kerewan) for their continued guidance and support in pursuing quality education. She praised the ministry’s focus on rural education development through effective policies, training programs, and resource provision.

Madam Jaw also acknowledged the tireless efforts of her teaching staff in guiding students through the academic year, often under challenging conditions. She thanked parents and guardians for their trust and partnership in fostering student success.

“As we celebrate these achievements today, let us remember that every child matters and every dream deserves support,” she said. “We must continue working together to improve the quality of education and nurture future leaders.”

Principal Education Officer Kebba L. Jobe of the Regional Education Directorate Region 3 emphasized MoBSE’s dedication to promoting community participation through the active involvement of SMCs, Mother Clubs, and Parent-Teacher Associations. He highlighted how mothers’ clubs, in particular, help improve school enrolment, retention, and the development of programs such as school gardens.

The event concluded with poetry recitations by ECD and Lower Basic School students, emphasizing the importance of education, punctuality, respect for teachers and elders, and musical entertainment that added vibrancy to the occasion.
