Our colleagues at Al Jazeera Arabic are reporting that at least four people have been killed following an Israeli attack on tents housing displaced Palestinians west of Khan Younis, according to sources at Nasser Medical Complex.
An unspecified number of people were also injured in the attack, the sources added.
Palestinians flee Zeitoun area in Gaza City amid escalating Israeli attacks
According to our local sources and witnesses in the area, the explosions have not stopped. Artillery shelling continues, and Palestinians are on the move due to intensified air raids and targeted attacks.
The Zeitoun neighbourhood is a very densely populated area, home to many families, including those who have been sheltering there. Residents were surprised when the artillery shelling and the intensive air raids started. Some people stayed. Others started moving.
However, as the violence escalated, many were forced to evacuate – hungry, devastated, and displaced yet again, leaving behind everything they had.
Many Palestinians reported evacuating and fleeing while under artillery shelling and live fire from quadcopters.
Residential homes, government buildings, and public facilities have all been targeted by Israeli forces. This is clearly creating the same scenario that took place in Rafah, Beit Hanoon, and Beit Lahiya, where no place is left untouched in the neighbourhoods.
Hamas slams former Israeli intelligence chief’s ‘genocidal’ remarks
The Palestinian group says former Israeli military intelligence chief Aharon Haliva’s recent comments are “an explicit admission of the genocidal doctrine” of Israel.
Haliva said: “For every person killed on October 7, 50 Palestinians must die.”
A Hamas statement on Telegram said: “Haliva’s call to kill 50 Palestinians for every Israeli, regardless of whether they are children or women, is a systematic criminal policy.
“The confessions reveal that the occupation’s crimes are the result of high-level decisions and official policy from the political and security leadership of the criminal Nazi entity,” it also said, calling on “the United Nations and international courts to document these confessions”.
Israel’s Channel 12 aired leaked recordings of Haliva making this statement. He added that this killing was “necessary for future generations”.
He went on to say that “they need a Nakba every now and then to feel the price,” referring to the violent ethnic cleansing of Palestine in 1948 by Zionist militias.
Haliva can be heard insisting that the killings are “not revenge”, but rather a “deterrent to future generations”.
