The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) says it has intercepted 46 would-be migrants during a joint operation carried out on 1 August 2026 at Dembo’s Lodge in Sita Nunku, Nuimi.
According to the GID, the operation was conducted by officers from the Barra Migration Management and Border Patrol Units following credible intelligence.
The operation was carried out in collaboration with personnel from the Njongon Military Post, with support from the COP 2 Project.
The department said the group comprised 38 Gambians, five Senegalese, two Malians and one Ivorian. All were male, including eight minors.
The intercepted individuals were taken to the Barra Migration Management Office for profiling and are expected to be transferred to the Tanji Migration Management Unit for further processing and investigation.
The GID said it remains committed to combating irregular migration through intelligence-led operations and strengthened collaboration with partner security agencies.
