The Gambian debutants Berewuleng FC etched their name into the history books with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Sierra Leone’s RAM KAMARA in the CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU A qualifiers at Annexe Stade Abdoulaye Wade on Sunday. The match, brimming with intensity, showcased Berewuleng’s potential as a rising force in African women’s football.

The decisive moment came early in the 13th minute when star striker Sarah Jarju, later named Woman of the Match, delivered a clinical finish to secure the lone goal. Jarju’s composure in front of the goal ignited the Gambian side’s faithful and set the tone for a fiercely contested battle. Her strike not only clinched the win but also marked a defining moment for Berewuleng in their maiden appearance at this level.

From the opening whistle, both teams brought flair and tenacity to the pitch. RAM KAMARA, stung by the early deficit, responded with relentless pressure, carving out several scoring chances but faltering in the final touch. Their inability to convert kept Berewuleng’s slim lead intact. The Gambians, undeterred by their narrow advantage, pressed for a second goal, creating opportunities but failing to add to their tally.

The second half unfolded as a pulsating end-to-end affair, with both sides showcasing remarkable energy and skill. Defenders on both ends stood tall, thwarting attacks and ensuring no further goals were scored. Berewuleng’s disciplined backline and RAM KAMARA’s resilient defense kept the scoreboard frozen, leaving fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

Head Coach Fakebba Saine lauded his team’s performance, emphasizing their focus and execution. “The girls delivered a fantastic performance today, meeting our expectations,” Saine said post-match. “We fought for the three points, and we got them—that’s what matters most.”

This historic win positions Berewuleng FC favorably in the qualifiers, boosting their confidence as they prepare for their next challenge against USFSA Bamako. With momentum on their side, the Gambian side is poised to make a strong case for a spot in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals, signaling their arrival as a team to watch in the regional tournament.
