Especially Dubai and Abu Dhabi were hit with missiles and drones overnight, some of them witnessed firsthand by Euronews journalists following the developments in the region.

According to reports, the main passenger hub, Terminal 3 at DXB, was also hit by a drone, prompting its evacuation. In fact, the airport was hit by a second attack in the early hours of Sunday morning, with black, billowing smoke rising up above the city.

In addition, Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi was also hit last night, resulting in the death of one person, and four others were seriously injured across the city.

In Dubai, many iconic sights were also among the targets. The Burj Al Arab hotel was hit, and a fire broke out in the building. People were evacuated but moved back in shortly after, and it was brought under control.

Jebel Ali Port also suffered debris falling, resulting in a fire that lasted until the early hours today.

Euronews journalists described a sense of uneasy calm across the city of Dubai, with residents and tourists who are stranded. Last night, many made their way to the basement garages in their buildings, laying out mattresses for residents to try and get some sleep in between explosions.

The Ministry of Defence have announced some statistics on Sunday and said that the UAE has successfully dealt with and destroyed 136 ballistic missiles, as well as 209 fighter jets that were headed towards the UAE territory.
