Finntraffic forecasts Maundy Thursday (April 2) to be the busiest day of the Easter travel period, with thousands of Finns heading out for the long weekend.

Here are some quick steps to ensure a smoother, safer journey.

• Peak outbound traffic: Maundy Thursday, Apr 2 between 13:00–19:00. Good Friday (Apr 3) will also be busy (about 09:00–14:00), with later peaks in northern areas. Expect intermittent jams on outbound routes from the Helsinki region and on Highways 4, 5 and 9 toward Jyväskylä and Mikkeli.
• Return traffic: starts rising Sunday afternoon/evening (Apr 5); peak return is Easter Monday, Apr 6 from 12:00–20:00, especially congested in Southern Finland.
• Safety tips: travel only when well-rested, allow extra time, avoid risky passing, keep a safe following distance, and ensure your vehicle and tires suit conditions.
• Minimize distractions: set navigation before you start, keep phones out of sight, and let passengers help.
• Secure cargo and pets: pack heavy items in the trunk and fasten them, use a cargo net/grille where possible, secure pets with a harness or carrier, and check ski box fastenings and weight limits.
