FMF Suva rugby team is gearing up for what promises to be a challenging match against Tailevu in the round five of the Skipper Cup competition this Saturday.
The team has been in excellent form, remaining undefeated in the competition thus far.
They started their winning streak with a strong 35-13 victory over Ba in the first round, followed by impressive wins against Lautoka (38-25) and Malolo (27-18) in the subsequent rounds.
Their latest triumph came in a convincing 32-15 win over Macuata in round 4.
Ulaiasi Butukoro, the Suva Rugby Union Manager, acknowledges that Tailevu has also been performing well, with only one loss in their last four games.
This sets the stage for an exciting and competitive match between the two teams.
Butukoro emphasises the importance of maintaining momentum, discipline, and composure under pressure in order to secure a victory against Tailevu.
He also highlights the team’s strategy of building depth by rotating players and providing opportunities to newcomers, as evidenced in their recent match against Macuata.
“Our player base is around 60 players that we have, we have been rotating our players until this fourth round, and we are trying to build a depth in the team.
“We had seven new debutants that played against Macuata, and we gave them a shot to wear the Suva jersey, and we are thankful that they came through and they managed to score points in the game.
“If think what we have saw is that once we maintain momentum and stick to our system, we need to be consistent in that, so that is what something we need to work on next week before we take on Tailevu.”
With both teams eager to assert their dominance in the competition, fans can anticipate a fiercely contested game when Suva faces Tailevu at 3pm at the Suva Grammar Ground this Saturday.
In other matches, Macuata will go up against Vatukoula, Malolo will face Nadroga, Naitasiri will clash with Lautoka, and Nadi will take on Ba.
