A 33-year-old carpenter from Cunningham, Suva, has been taken into police custody following the discovery of suspected illicit drugs during a patrol operation last night.

Police officers conducting patrols in the area reportedly stopped and searched the man, uncovering a clear plastic bag containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine, along with dried leaves suspected to be marijuana.

Officers also found $2,121.20 in cash in his possession, which police suspect may be proceeds of crime.

The man remains in police custody as investigations into the matter continue.
