A 28-year-old man has been charged with allegedly stealing more than $7,000 from an 80-year-old woman in Labasa.

The court heard that the accused was entrusted by the victim to assist her in withdrawing money from an ATM in Labasa town earlier this year.

After obtaining her PIN, the man allegedly swapped his ATM card with hers and went on to make multiple withdrawals throughout February 2025.

Police confirmed that the accused withdrew over $7,000 from the victim’s account before his arrest.

He has been charged with 11 counts of theft and was produced at the Labasa Magistrates Court on Monday, 18 August 2025.

The man has been remanded in custody and will reappear in court on 1 September 2025 for a formal bail application.
