FSC keeps mum on outcome of meeting over Vakalalabure allegations

Two days after a crucial meeting convened by the Fiji Sports Council to discuss allegations against its chief executive Gilbert Vakalalabure, no official statement has been released.

The closed-door talks were expected to clarify the Council’s position on the claims, but as of this morning, there has been no public update on the outcome.

When contacted for comment at 10am today, FSC chairman Peniasi Sokia Evo told The Fiji Times he was in a meeting and asked to be contacted later.

Two subsequent calls to his mobile phone at around 11.30am went unanswered.

In addition, an email sent to Mr Evo on Wednesday, February 18, as well as a separate email sent on February 13, have not received any response.

The continued silence has raised questions about transparency and the Council’s handling of the matter, particularly given the public interest surrounding the leadership of one of the country’s key sporting bodies.

It remains unclear whether the meeting reached any formal resolution or if further internal processes are underway.

The Fiji Sports Council has yet to indicate when it will provide an official statement
