FCCC Confirms Rent Freeze Remains

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission has confirmed that the freeze on residential and ground rent remains in force, with the extension order issued in 2021 continuing until further notice.

The commission has reminded landlords that global tensions, international economic developments or increases in fuel prices do not constitute valid grounds for increasing residential rental rates.

FCCC is urging tenants who have experienced sudden or unexplained rent increases to report the matter through its communication channels or seek further information regarding their rights and obligations under the current rent freeze measures.

The commission says the existing order remains effective and landlords are expected to comply with the regulations currently in place.
