BUHLENI – The Mayiwane Inkhundla, in partnership with the Government of Eswatini and the National Disaster Management and Relief Agency (NDMRA), has commenced the construction of six houses for vulnerable families whose homes were destroyed during the devastating December storms.
The housing initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to restore dignity, safety, and hope to affected households while providing decent shelter to those most in need.
Member of Parliament for Mayiwane Inkhundla, Sicelo Prince Dlamini, affectionately known as Khungankhosi, said the project demonstrates government’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable citizens receive the support they need following natural disasters.
“Through the support of Government and the NDMRA, we are currently constructing six houses for vulnerable people who were affected by the December storm. This is an update to our community and an assurance that more houses will still be constructed. Ngeke sikwente kanye kanye (we cannot do everything at once). We therefore request our people to remain calm and patient as we continue restoring hope to our communities. He emphasized that the housing project is part of a broader commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable families across the constituency and ensuring that no affected household is left behind.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a lifeline for families who lost their homes and possessions during the severe storms. The new houses are expected to provide safe and secure accommodation while restoring dignity to the beneficiaries.
The MP reiterated that the current six houses represent only the first phase of the programme, assuring the community that additional homes will be built as soon as resources become available. He urged residents to continue supporting one another while government and its partners work to address the housing needs of all affected families.
The initiative reflects the shared commitment of the Government of Eswatini, the NDMRA, and Mayiwane Inkhundla to rebuilding communities and ensuring that vulnerable citizens have access to safe and decent housing.
