TAOYUAN, TAIWAN – Prime Minister Russell Mmiso Dlamini has embarked on a strategic mission to Taiwan aimed at unlocking new trade, investment and technology opportunities that could accelerate Eswatini’s economic growth and create more opportunities for its people.
The Prime Minister arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Monday ahead of a series of high-level engagements with President Lai Ching-te, senior government leaders and business stakeholders.
His visit will also include participation in the Ketagelan Forum, where he is expected to present Eswatini’s perspectives on regional and global issues while strengthening diplomatic and economic cooperation between the two long-standing partners.
Speaking upon his arrival, Dlamini said the visit was an opportunity to build on the already strong relationship between Eswatini and Taiwan while identifying new areas of collaboration that will directly benefit the Kingdom.
“I am honoured to have arrived in Taiwan for a visit that advances our shared priorities of peace, development, innovation and inclusive prosperity,” he said.
The Prime Minister conveyed warm greetings from His Majesty King Mswati III and the people of Eswatini to President Lai Ching-te and thanked the Government and people of Taiwan for the warm welcome extended to the delegation.
Dlamini described the relationship between Eswatini and Taiwan as one founded on mutual respect, trust and shared values, saying it has continued to deliver tangible benefits to both countries over many decades.
He praised Taiwan for its consistent support towards Eswatini’s national development, particularly in the fields of healthcare, agriculture, education, technology, infrastructure and private sector development.
According to the Prime Minister, the next phase of the partnership should focus on unlocking greater economic opportunities through increased investment, expanded trade and stronger innovation-driven cooperation.
He said discussions with Taiwanese leaders would centre on attracting investment into Eswatini, promoting technology and skills transfer, strengthening agricultural productivity, improving healthcare collaboration and supporting sustainable economic growth.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the visit would open new avenues of cooperation that would stimulate economic activity, empower local industries and improve the livelihoods of emaSwati.
He added that strengthening relations with Taiwan remains an important pillar of Eswatini’s international engagement strategy, as the Kingdom seeks partnerships that promote inclusive development and long-term prosperity.
“Our discussions will explore new opportunities to deepen our strategic partnership, expand trade and investment, strengthen technology and innovation cooperation, advance health and agricultural development, and promote skills transfer for sustainable and inclusive economic growth,” he said.
Dlamini said he was optimistic that the outcomes of the visit would further strengthen bilateral relations and lay the foundation for new initiatives that will benefit both present and future generations.
The visit comes at a time when Eswatini is intensifying efforts to attract foreign direct investment, expand export opportunities and accelerate economic transformation through strategic international partnerships.
