MBABANE – Nkhaba Member of Parliament Hope Shiba has called for urgent repairs to several roads in his constituency, warning that deteriorating infrastructure is affecting residents’ safety and access to essential services.
Speaking during the House of Assembly Portfolio Committee budget debate on March 11, 2026, Shiba highlighted the situation in the KaDlomo area, where a bridge that was previously partially damaged has now been completely washed away following heavy rains.
He explained that the collapse of the bridge has forced residents to cross directly through the river, creating dangerous conditions, particularly for emergency and transport services.
Shiba added that about 100 metres beyond the collapsed bridge, the road has deteriorated to the point where it is almost impassable. Vehicles, including tractors, struggle to navigate the area, leaving families with limited access to schools, healthcare facilities and local businesses.
He further noted that ambulances have been unable to reach some patients due to the condition of the road. Residents transporting goods such as furniture or building materials also face significant challenges.
The MP also raised concerns about the Mbuluzi–Nyokana–Maguga road, a gravel road that serves as a shortcut connecting Sipiki to Maguga.
According to Shiba, the road has been promised repairs on several occasions. However, only small sections were fixed before work was halted, leaving the route in poor condition.
He stressed that the road requires proper tarring, noting that upgrading it could help reduce traffic congestion along the MR1 while also providing a safer and faster route for residents.
Shiba said urgent intervention is required not only for the KaDlomo bridge and surrounding road but also for other deteriorating road sections in the constituency. He explained that poor road conditions make it difficult for residents to attend funerals, access markets and transport essential supplies.
The MP urged the Ministry responsible for public works to prioritise these infrastructure projects to improve community access and ensure safer, more reliable transportation for residents across Nkhaba.
He concluded by emphasising that timely rehabilitation of roads and bridges is essential to prevent further disruptions, protect lives and support local development initiatives.
