MBABANE– Cycling enthusiasts from across Eswatini and neighbouring countries are gearing up for the 5th edition of the Kusekhaya Lowveld Invitational, set for 22 November 2025 at Mhlume Club.
The milestone event continues its mission to make competitive cycling accessible to everyone, regardless of age or experience. Hosted by MulaSport in partnership with First Sugar, the invitational was established to fill a gap in Eswatini’s cycling calendar.
“We noticed that most road races only award elite cyclists, so we designed Kusekhaya with 19 categories to ensure every cyclist can compete at their own level,” said the organisers.
Over the past five years, the event has evolved from a local ride into a regional cycling showcase, drawing participants from Mozambique, South Africa, and beyond. With race distances ranging from 5KM to 120KM, Kusekhaya caters to families, beginners, and elite cyclists alike.
“We even offer the 5KM category free for young children to encourage participation and build a culture of fitness from an early age,” the organisers added.
The race route, known for its scenic Lowveld beauty and fast terrain, tests both endurance and skill. Longer distances, like the 90KM and 120KM, require tactical precision — last year’s winners were separated by mere milliseconds, underscoring the event’s competitive edge.
Beyond the race, the Kusekhaya Invitational has become a platform for community growth and empowerment. With support from First Sugar, Emlembe Beverages, Stefanutti Stocks, and Mhlume Country Club, proceeds are reinvested into local initiatives. This year, donations will benefit the Vuvulane Town Center, which assists underprivileged children.
“The race is more than just competition; it’s about building a cycling culture, promoting healthy lifestyles, and creating opportunities for MSMEs and local artisans,” said Phetsile Xulu, Marketing Manager at MulaSport.
Safety remains a top priority, with coordination from the Ministry of Works, Roads Department, and Royal Eswatini Police Service, ensuring all participants and spectators enjoy a secure and smooth experience.
As the event celebrates its fifth anniversary, organisers are offering 100 exclusive race packs for the first paid entries — each valued above the entry fee — and unveiling new trophy and medal designs to mark the milestone.
The Kusekhaya Lowveld Invitational continues to solidify its status as the home of cycling in Eswatini, combining inclusivity, community impact, and competitive spirit in an event that grows stronger every year.
