LOBAMBA – Football, music and entertainment collided in spectacular fashion as HipHop FC claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Kingdom Celebrity Club (KCC) in the inaugural Kingdom Celebrity Cup at Somhlolo National Stadium, turning the match into a celebration of unity, friendship and sporting excellence.
The celebrity showdown, held on Friday, attracted hundreds of football lovers, music fans and content creators from Eswatini and South Africa, proving that the beautiful game has the power to bring people together beyond borders.
Before kick-off, confidence filled the KCC camp. Technical coach Felix Badenhorst assured supporters that his side had “a strong squad”, while head coach Mbekezile “Culolam” Dlamini declared, “My boys are ready,” following weeks of preparation.
KCC personalities also believed victory was within reach. Content creator Pepe boldly predicted a 3-0 win, comedian Mdura joked that the team had “over prepared”, and Sgitha Wama2K revealed the squad had trained extensively from Mbabane to Lavumisa to ensure they were match-ready. Former football star Jumbo Khumalo also expressed excitement, saying the team was fully prepared for the challenge ahead.
As the players walked onto the pitch, KCC proudly unveiled their new DiskiBet-sponsored kit while HipHop FC matched the occasion with a stylish football strip. The atmosphere inside Somhlolo National Stadium reached fever pitch as supporters cheered every tackle, pass and attack.
The intensity increased when substitutes Gogo, Slimbee, Zulu D and Sancheziey warmed up on the sidelines, ready to inject fresh energy into the contest. Both teams displayed determination, teamwork and moments of individual brilliance before HipHop FC eventually secured a 2-1 victory at the final whistle.
While HipHop FC celebrated on the field, fans flooded the pitch to take photographs with their favourite celebrities, transforming the stadium into a festival of smiles, music and unforgettable memories.
HipHop FC captain and South African music heavyweight Big Zulu said the result was secondary to the message behind the tournament.
“This was about love, respect and unity,” he said. “It was never just about winning. We wanted to promote togetherness between Eswatini and South Africa through football and entertainment.”
Donald also echoed the spirit of the day, reminding supporters that “ultimately we are brothers and sisters,” reinforcing that sport should unite rather than divide.
Match referee and Limkokwing University lecturer Phathizwe Magongo admitted officiating a celebrity fixture came with its challenges but praised both teams for respecting the game.
“It was a bit challenging, but the players showed great sportsmanship and teamwork throughout the match,” he said.
Although HipHop FC lifted the bragging rights, the Kingdom Celebrity Cup delivered something far greater than a football result. It showcased how sport and entertainment can unite nations, inspire communities and strengthen friendships, leaving supporters eagerly anticipating the next edition.
