HLANE– The Hlane Royal Residence was transformed into a sea of vibrant colour and cultural pride on March 13, 2026, as thousands of Lutsango gathered for the second leg of the annual Buganu ceremony.

The atmosphere was electric with song and dance as the regiment arrived to deliver tetfulo to Her Majesty the Indlovukazi, marking a significant peak in this year’s harvest celebrations.

The spirit of giving was on full display as various groups presented a diverse array of gifts. The delivery included traditional Buganu, vast quantities of fresh fruits, and vegetables from various regions. Highlighting the humanitarian spirit of the event, The Luke Commission delivered wheelchairs and beans, contributing to the diverse collection of items brought before the throne by different organisations and corporate entities.

Minister of Home Affairs, HRH Princess Lindiwe, spoke warmly about the overwhelming turnout and the infectious energy of the women gathered. “We are very happy to be here at Hlane,” the Princess remarked, noting the radiant joy shared by the thousands in attendance.

“We cannot even begin to describe the joy we feel because of the way things are unfolding. It is incredibly pleasing; there is so much joy and the excitement is palpable. It is wonderful to see the Lutsango so happy as we celebrate with our Sovereigns.”

The ceremony is not only a celebration of harvest but also a vital platform for empowerment. Princess Lindiwe explained that the gathering includes a dedicated time for the regiment to engage in social development. “Tomorrow, the regiment will gather for lessons where they will learn about motherhood, how to conduct themselves, and how to improve their livelihoods at home,” she said. This educational aspect ensures that the Lutsango return to their communities enriched with both cultural pride and practical knowledge.

The festivities are set to culminate in a grand display of traditional artistry. “Then, in the afternoon, we will enter the main arena for the traditional songs and dance in the presence of Their Majesties. It is a time of great celebration and tradition,” the Princess added, looking forward to the main event.

Recognising the dedication of the women, many of whom travelled long distances, Princess Lindiwe highlighted the significance of the special holiday declared by His Majesty King Mswati III. She noted that this gesture ensures the safety and well-being of the participants following the ceremony. “With His Majesty having declared a special holiday, the regiment will be able to return home peacefully on Sunday and Monday without any stress. It makes the festivities even more enjoyable for everyone involved.”

The delivery of tetfulo on March 13 serves as a powerful reminder of the unity and rich heritage that continues to define Eswatini. As the ceremony continues, the bond between the people and the Monarchy remains the cornerstone of this historic celebration.
