MBABANE –Health Worker Sdumo Lukhele has urged couples to take mental health seriously in their relationships, stressing that emotional well-being plays an important role in building healthy, supportive and lasting partnerships.
Speaking during an interview on Eswatini TV’s Kusile Breakfast Show, Lukhele highlighted the importance of open communication, emotional support and understanding between partners.
He noted that relationships can sometimes become a source of emotional distress when couples struggle to communicate their feelings, resolve conflicts or understand each other’s emotional needs. According to Lukhele, addressing such challenges early can help prevent them from negatively affecting an individual’s mental well-being and the relationship as a whole.
Lukhele encouraged couples to create an environment where both partners feel comfortable expressing their emotions without fear of being judged. He emphasised that listening to one another and showing empathy can strengthen trust and help partners navigate difficult situations together.
He further encouraged individuals experiencing emotional or psychological difficulties to seek professional help rather than suffering in silence. Seeking support, he said, should not be viewed as a sign of weakness but as an important step towards improving one’s well-being.
The health worker also reminded viewers that healthy relationships require effort from both partners, including respect, understanding, communication and emotional support.
His discussion on the Kusile Breakfast Show provided an important reminder that mental health should not be overlooked in relationships, as the emotional well-being of individuals can have a significant impact on the strength and quality of their partnerships.
