Prime Minister Russell Dlamini has intensified Eswatini’s drive to attract investment into the renewable energy sector after visiting three major energy and technology projects in Tainan, Taiwan, as the Kingdom seeks to strengthen its energy security and create the capacity required to support large-scale industrialisation.

The Prime Minister’s engagements formed part of the country’s broader investment and economic diplomacy programme during his visit to Taiwan,

with a particular focus on learning from Taiwan’s experience in renewable energy development, smart technologies and the integration of energy systems into industrial and agricultural activities.

Accompanied by his delegation, Dlamini visited Hengs Technology Co. Ltd.

Jhih-Guang Energy Corp., and the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, where he was introduced to various models of renewable energy generation,

energy storage, smart technologies, and research and development.

The visits provided the Eswatini delegation with an opportunity to examine technologies and business models that could potentially be adapted to the Kingdom’s own energy and industrial development agenda.

The Prime Minister’s first stop was Hengs Technology Co. Ltd., a Taiwanese company specialising in solar energy engineering, procurement and construction.

The company has more than 28 years of experience in the renewable energy industry and has developed expertise across different aspects of solar energy projects.

During the engagement, the Eswatini delegation was briefed on the company’s operations and its experience in delivering solar energy infrastructure.

Dlamini used the engagement to present Eswatini as a potential destination for Taiwanese investment, highlighting opportunities in the energy sector as the government seeks to attract investors capable of contributing capital, technology, and technical expertise.

The delegation’s second stop was Jhih-Guang Energy Corp., a subsidiary of Ta Ya Green Energy Technology.

The company operates what was described as Taiwan’s first large-scale fishery-solar symbiosis project, combining agricultural or fishery activities with solar power generation.

The project covers approximately 114 hectares and has a generation capacity of 85 megawatts.

It also incorporates advanced energy storage facilities, demonstrating how renewable energy generation can be combined with storage technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of power supply.

The project offered the Eswatini delegation an opportunity to observe an alternative approach to land utilisation, where renewable energy infrastructure is integrated with productive economic activities rather than being developed in isolation.

The final stop was the Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City, a flagship high-tech and green energy innovation hub in Taiwan.

The Shalun facility provided the delegation with insight into how research institutions, technology companies and government initiatives can be brought together to develop solutions aimed at supporting a low-carbon economy.
