ESWATINI AIR LAUNCHES LUSAKA ROUTE

BY MBONGENI NDLELA

LUSAKA, ZAMBIA — Eswatini has taken a bold step in strengthening regional connectivity with the successful launch of Eswatini Air’s direct flight to Lusaka, Zambia, an achievement described as both historic and transformative for the Kingdom and the region.

Speaking at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport during the inaugural ceremony, Minister of Public Works and Transport, Hon. Chief Ndlaluhlaza Ndwandwe, delivered a message filled with optimism and purpose, highlighting the deeper significance of the new route.

“It is an honour and privilege to stand before you today as we mark a moment of historic significance for the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Republic of Zambia, the inauguration of Eswatini Air’s direct route to Lusaka.”

A Milestone for Connectivity

The Minister emphasized that the launch goes beyond aviation, positioning it as a strategic move to bring nations closer and unlock economic potential.

“By introducing a direct link between Eswatini and Zambia, we are reducing travel time, facilitating trade, and creating new opportunities for business and collaboration.”

He noted that the route aligns with continental aspirations under Africa’s free trade and air transport frameworks, reinforcing Eswatini’s commitment to regional integration.

Driving Trade, Tourism and Growth

The Lusaka route is expected to enhance tourism and open access to Zambia’s renowned attractions while also showcasing Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage to a broader audience.

“The Lusaka route is both strategic and impactful. It will enhance trade, support tourism, and strengthen ties between our two nations—opening access to Zambia’s renowned attractions while showcasing Eswatini’s rich cultural heritage.”

The Minister further stressed the critical role of aviation in national development.

“Infrastructure that connects our Kingdom to the world is not a luxury—it is a necessity. Aviation drives tourism, attracts investment, supports trade, and creates wealth and employment.”

A Vision Backed by Leadership

Placing the milestone in a broader national context, the Minister linked the achievement to Eswatini’s long-standing vision of growth and prosperity.

“We gather not only to celebrate the launch of our fifth regional destination, but to do so in the context of a monumental national milestone, forty years of visionary leadership under His Majesty King Mswati III.”

He added that the Kingdom continues to pursue a future defined by connectivity, competitiveness, and confidence on the continental stage.

Building Strong Regional Partnerships

The Minister also praised the partnership between Eswatini and Zambia, describing it as a reflection of African unity and shared progress.

“The cooperation that has made this route possible reflects the spirit of African solidarity and mutual benefit that must underpin our regional relationships.”

He expressed gratitude for the professionalism and collaboration of Zambian counterparts, noting that the partnership will deepen over time.

A Symbol of National Pride

Highlighting the growing presence of Eswatini Air in the region, the Minister said the airline represents more than transportation—it embodies national identity and ambition.

“Eswatini Air is not simply an airline, it is a statement of national identity, a symbol of what our Kingdom is capable of, and a vehicle for the aspirations of every Swati citizen.”

With routes already connecting Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town and Harare, the Lusaka addition strengthens the airline’s regional footprint.

“Today, we are not simply launching a flight, we are strengthening connections, unlocking opportunities, and bringing our nations closer together.”

As the inaugural flight touched down in Lusaka, it signaled a new era of opportunity, one where Eswatini continues to rise as a key player in regional aviation and economic integration.

The skies are no longer the limit, they are just the beginning.
