Video: Egyptian Space Agency releases satellite footage documenting 23 years of Grand Egyptian Museum construction

The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) revealed on Thursday, remarkable satellite imagery documenting the construction phases of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which is set for its official inauguration ceremony this Saturday.

The official Facebook page of the Egyptian Cabinet posted a video clip from the EgSA that documents the various stages of the GEM’s construction, which began back in 2002.

The video visually chronicles the evolution of the museum complex area and the transformations it underwent over a period spanning 23 years.

The GEM is set to be the largest archaeological museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization.

Its inception was driven by the need to house Egypt’s rapidly expanding collection of ancient artifacts—many of which had been stored away—and to modernize the preservation and display of its heritage.

Strategically located on the Giza Plateau, approximately two kilometers from the Pyramids, the museum acts as a new gateway to Egypt’s history.

It features state-of-the-art facilities, including laboratories for conservation, and is designed to offer visitors a comprehensive, technologically advanced journey through 7,000 years of Egyptian history, with the complete collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures among its centerpiece exhibits.
