Egyptian government follows up on fuel supplies for industrial, agricultural sectors

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday reviewed government efforts to provide petroleum products for the industrial, agricultural, and other key development sectors, his office said in a statement.

At the start of the meeting, Madbouly affirmed that the government is moving forward with the state’s plan to advance targeted sectors, led by industry and agriculture, to meet the needs of the local market and achieve food security. He noted that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi is closely following the file of localising industry to enhance production with high quality and competitive prices, as well as the expansion of agricultural land reclamation.

“The government is working to provide the various requirements for the industrial and agricultural sectors, as the state relies on these two sectors, along with other strategic sectors, to lead the engine of development,” Madbouly said. “We are always working to ensure that the needs of these sectors for petroleum products are met.”

The meeting, attended by several ministers including those of industry, finance, agriculture, and petroleum, discussed a number of measures to enhance the sustainability of petroleum product supplies to development sectors.

A government spokesperson said the officials also reviewed the Ministry of Petroleum’s efforts to secure the national grid’s gas supplies in the recent period, both by increasing domestic extraction and by providing regasification vessels. This has contributed to securing the needs of the electricity sector and factories for gas, ensuring the continuation of production.

The meeting also covered ongoing efforts to develop gas infrastructure by bringing in floating regasification units, which have increased regasification capacities and ensured the flexibility and continuity of gas supplies to all vital sectors, including industry.
