Sisi warns of ‘escalation and chaos’ in call with Bahrain King Hamad

Egypt President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi warned on Saturday that Iranian attacks on Bahrain represent a “serious threat to regional security” and open the door to further escalation and chaos.

The Iranian attacks came in retaliation for US and Israeli strikes on Iran.

In a telephone call with King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with the leadership and people of Bahrain. He expressed Egypt’s categorical rejection of any violation of Arab sovereignty or security, according to Presidential Spokesperson Mohamed El-Shennawy.

Sisi stressed Egypt’s firm position on the necessity of prioritising political solutions and resorting to dialogue and diplomacy as the “only way” to overcome crises. He warned that continued military escalation would lead to more violence and bloodshed, contradicting the aspirations of the region’s people for security and development.

King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa valued Egypt’s supportive position and praised the close relations between the two countries. He also emphasised the importance of joint Arab coordination to face current challenges and safeguard Arab national security.

The call followed reports of Iranian missile interceptions over Bahrain. The attacks on Saturday caused widespread alarm across the Gulf, with the Revolutionary Guards vowing to continue operations until their “enemy is decisively defeated.”
