Italy ready to send peacekeepers to Gaza, hails Trump’s ceasefire plan

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani welcomed the agreement on the first phase of US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan for Gaza, stating that Rome is prepared to dispatch troops if a peacekeeping force is required.

Tajani wrote in a post on the X platform: “Peace is near, and Italy, which has always supported the American plan, is ready to play its part in strengthening the ceasefire, providing new humanitarian aid, and participating in the reconstruction of Gaza. We are also prepared to send forces if an international peacekeeping force is established to reunite Palestine.”

Italy’s position on the Israel-Gaza conflict, led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Tajani, seeks a pragmatic balance. It has earlier expressed increasing concern, describing Israel’s military action as “disproportionate” and prioritizing humanitarian aid and reconstruction for Gaza.

Additionally, Italy remains committed to a two-state solution but insists that Palestinian state recognition must occur through a mutual, negotiated agreement, not unilaterally.
