Iran’s Araghchi warns against Israeli plots following drone attack on Damietta port

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi warned against alleged Israeli “false-flag operations” designed to undermine regional peace, following a denial by Yemen’s Houthi group that it was involved in a recent drone attack on Egypt’s Damietta Port.

In a statement posted on X, Araghchi described Egypt as an “important friend and partner in the region,” stressing that Cairo’s security is of utmost importance to Tehran.

“We must all be vigilant against Israeli plots and false-flag operations designed to undermine regional peace,” Araghchi said. “The threat is clear, mutual, and fearful of Muslim solidarity.”

The minister’s comments come after Yemen’s Houthi group on Thursday rejected media reports linking it to the incident. A Houthi source told the group-affiliated Saba news agency that there was “no truth to the rumors” alleging the group had targeted a vessel at the Egyptian port on the Mediterranean coast.

Egyptian authorities previously reported that a July 29 drone attack ignited a fire aboard a regasification ship and an adjacent storage vessel at Damietta. The Egyptian government stated that no group had claimed responsibility for the incident, which required a 14-hour firefighting operation and prompted Cairo to activate strategic energy backup plans to maintain national power grid stability.
