Egypt, Qatar discuss expanding health cooperation, Gaza support

Egyptian Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Sunday with Qatar’s Ambassador to Cairo, Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to explore ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple health fields, the Egyptian Health Ministry said.

In a statement, ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar highlighted the depth of relations between Egypt and Qatar and reaffirmed the commitment of both countries’ leadership to broadening partnerships in the health sector.

The talks focused on activating an existing memorandum of understanding between the two health ministries and on Qatari support for establishing an advanced medical simulation centre in Egypt, modelled on Qatar’s world-class Itqan Centre. The proposed facility aims to serve as a hub for cutting-edge training in medical simulation.

Officials also discussed preparing a cooperation agreement between Qatar’s Aspetar Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Hospital and Egypt’s National Institute of Neuromuscular and Sports Medicine to promote scientific research and knowledge exchange in sports medicine and rehabilitation.

According to the statement, the meeting addressed closer coordination on delivering medical and humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as well as expanding collaboration in telemedicine and digital health solutions.

The Qatari ambassador expressed Doha’s keenness to scale up existing health programmes with Egypt and to explore new areas of cooperation, emphasising the desire to move forward swiftly with joint initiatives.

Senior officials from the Egyptian Health Ministry attended the meeting, joined by Deputy Ambassador Maryam Al-Sheibi and embassy adviser Khaled Al-Ibrahim from the Qatari side.
