Egypt-China trade exchange reaches $11.3bn in H1 2026: CAPMAS

The Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS) revealed that the trade exchange between Egypt and China rose to $11.3bn during the first half (H1) of 2026, compared with $9.3bn during the same period in 2025, marking a 21.5% increase.

In a statement issued on the occasion of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Egypt, CAPMAS said the value of Egyptian exports to China surged to $840.8m in H1 2026, compared with $280.5m during the same period in 2025, marking an increase of 199.8%.

Meanwhile, Egyptian imports from China reached $10.4bn, compared with $9.1bn a year earlier, marking a 14.3% increase.

According to CAPMAS, Egypt’s main export commodity groups to China during H1 2026 included mineral fuels, oils and products of their distillation, valued at $494m; vegetables and fruit at $150.6m; cotton and vegetable textile fibres at $76.4m; natural calcium phosphates at $31m; and organic and inorganic chemical products at $21m.

Egypt’s main imports from China, meanwhile, comprised electrical and mechanical machinery and equipment worth $4.1bn; vehicles, tractors and bicycles at $1.2bn; iron, steel and articles thereof at $930.7m; plastics and articles thereof at $524m; and organic and inorganic chemical products at $423.7m.

CAPMAS also noted that remittances from Egyptians working in China reached $23.3m during FY 2024/25, compared with $19.5m during FY 2023/24.

Remittances from Chinese nationals working in Egypt, meanwhile, amounted to $3.5m, compared with $3.1m during the previous fiscal year.
