Santiago, D.R.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) inaugurated a new safe space for children, adolescents, and pregnant or nursing women intercepted due to irregular immigration status. The facility, donated by UNICEF, aims to provide vulnerable groups with secure and comfortable conditions during migration processing.
This center in Santiago is part of a broader agreement creating three similar facilities, including one in Dajabón (already operating) and another under construction in Elías Piña, with a combined investment exceeding 18.2 million Dominican pesos. Each center features recreational areas, offices for psychosocial support, rest areas, accessible design, and air conditioning to ensure privacy, well-being, and protection for users.
The inauguration was attended by UNICEF officials Geny Lozada and Yamira Cuesta, IOM representative Santos Miguel Román, CONANI official Natividad Rodríguez, and DGM representatives General Juan Carlos Vicente Pérez and Colonel Manuel Carrasco Guerrero.
