Santo Domingo.- The patriotic campaign RDPorLoAlto has called for the restoration of the Punta Torrecilla Lighthouse, urging the Government—through the Ministries of Culture and Tourism and the Santo Domingo East Mayor’s Office—to carry out a comprehensive renovation that both honors the site’s historic value and revitalizes its role as a cultural and community landmark.
The organization emphasized that the lighthouse should be seen not as an expense but as an investment in the dignity and identity of the residents of eastern Santo Domingo, a coastal area rich in symbolism and heritage.
To achieve this, RDPorLoAlto proposed a sustainable restoration plan that includes structural rehabilitation with solar-powered LED lighting, the creation of an interpretive center featuring interactive exhibits on the Dominican Republic’s maritime history, and public-private partnerships to host cultural and tourism events. The initiative aims to generate local jobs and attract visitors, with an estimated economic impact of RD$50 million annually through increased tourism and community development.
