Santo Domingo.- Leah Francis Campos, the newly appointed United States ambassador to the Dominican Republic, arrived this Thursday at Las Américas International Airport (AILA) in Santo Domingo to officially begin her diplomatic mission in the country.
Campos, appointed by U.S. President Donald Trump, assumes her post nearly five years after the departure of former ambassador Robin Bernstein, marking the end of a long vacancy in the position.
She arrived at around 3:00 p.m. and was welcomed at the airport’s Ambassadors’ Hall by Patricia Aguilera, the U.S. Embassy’s chargé d’affaires, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers, along with General Emmanuel Souffront, director of the Specialized Corps in Airport and Civil Aviation Security (CESAC).
Campos’ arrival reaffirms the United States’ commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with the Dominican Republic through renewed diplomatic engagement.
