FEDA launches Fifth Restoration Route to promote agroecology

Dajabón.- In commemoration of the Grito de Capotillo, Hecmilio Galván, director of the Special Fund for Agricultural Development (FEDA), led the “Fifth Route of Restoration” along the northern border, carrying out 15 activities across multiple communities to promote agroecology, sustainability, and the growth of local producers.

Hundreds of farmers gathered at the Mariano Cestero Crossing in Hipólito Billini, Dajabón province, where Galván distributed letters of intent for 20,000 coffee seedlings and 5,000 cocoa seedlings, benefiting producers in Restauración, Loma de Cabrera, and Carrizal. “With this donation of 25,000 seedlings, we are sowing hope, wealth, and greatness for the Dominican Republic,” Galván said.

During the Restoration Route, FEDA implemented a comprehensive rural support program, including:

  • Plant Your Yard program: Seedlings, seeds, tools, and training on urban gardens in Villa Anacaona, Capotillo, Las Rosas, and Carrizal.

  • Agroecology workshops: Training and donations of agricultural tools in Restauración, Río Limpio, Hipólito Billini, and Mariano Cestero.

  • Women empowerment initiatives: Conferences and distribution of laying hens and seedlings at the Loma de Cabrera Cultural Center and Noelia de Carrizal Hacienda.

In total, 1,500 laying hens, 31,500 coffee, cocoa, and soursop seedlings, and agricultural tools were delivered to local producers.

The event also highlighted FEDA’s Saving the Mountains program, which aims to connect agriculture with environmental conservation, protect water resources, conserve biodiversity, and increase productivity through training for small producers.
