Environment Ministry cleans up El Cayo Beach after illegal dumping

Santo Domingo.- The Provincial Directorate of the Environment in Barahona completed a cleanup operation at El Cayo beach after construction materials, rubble and other waste were dumped in the coastal area.

The operation was coordinated by provincial director Orquídea González Vallejo, who deployed crews to remove the debris and restore the area.

The situation gained attention after a journalist shared a video on social media showing the accumulation of waste. The Environment Ministry said cleanup efforts had already begun but were temporarily suspended because of rain before resuming once weather conditions improved.

Authorities confirmed that the area has been cleared and warned that environmental laws will be enforced against those responsible for illegally dumping construction materials and waste.

The ministry also urged residents and visitors to dispose of waste properly and help protect Barahona’s natural areas.
