Santo Domingo.- President Luis Abinader and Chief Justice Henry Molina opened the first International Conference on Open Justice, held in Santo Domingo on August 27–28 with representatives from 21 countries. Molina stressed that building open, trustworthy, and collaborative states is essential to strengthening democracy and restoring citizens’ confidence in institutions.
The event seeks to promote a more transparent, participatory, and people-centered justice system, culminating in the signing of the Santo Domingo Declaration for Open Justice, a regional pact to transform judicial systems in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Dominican Judiciary highlighted its progress with initiatives such as the Juriteca, the Judicial Observatory, and the Transparency Board, which expand access to legal knowledge and open data.
International leaders praised the Dominican Republic’s role in advancing Open Justice. The Open Government Partnership emphasized that the Americas are the most active region in this field, with the Dominican Republic among the leaders. During the event, the Judiciary also honored Dr. Milagros Ortiz Bosch, head of DIGEIG, for her leadership and commitment to transparency and the rule of law.
