Dominican Embassy strengthens ties with diaspora in southern Chile

Chile.- The Embassy of the Dominican Republic recently conducted an outreach tour across southern Chile, visiting Puerto Montt, Valdivia, and Chiloé, to strengthen ties with the Dominican diaspora and reaffirm the country’s presence in the region. The delegation, led by Ambassador Juan Cohen, listened to the community’s concerns, aspirations, and proposals, emphasizing a proactive, “diplomacy in motion” approach.

The visit promoted the expansion of mobile consular services to facilitate access to government support across distant regions. The mission also involved cultural and diplomatic activities, including participation in the IV International Meeting “The Rivers to the World” in Valdivia and the VI Meeting of Cultures in Puerto Montt, highlighting the Dominican Republic’s Caribbean identity.

The delegation held meetings with local institutions such as the Presidential Delegation, Fosis, Sernac, and the Social Security Institute, aiming to strengthen inter-institutional cooperation and generate initiatives benefiting the Dominican community. Attendees praised the outreach as a meaningful effort to foster social, cultural, and consular development, with residents like Ursula Ramirez noting that it marked the first time they felt truly heard and supported by their diplomatic representation.
