Santo Domingo.- Women plastic waste collectors organized under the Santo Domingo Green Women’s Economic Council (Codessd), together with their families, are improving their quality of life through a community program led by the Sur Futuro Foundation and funded by Coca-Cola Caribbean. The initiative supports more than 270 women in the Ozama River area through programs focused on education, health, nutrition, and community visibility.
The project includes forming a recycling cooperative, training, and linking women with local recyclers to sell collected plastic, distributing school kits, providing vision exams and prescription lenses, offering food rations purchased from local businesses, and raising awareness about protecting the Ozama River.
Sur Futuro Foundation President Melba Segura de Grullón highlighted the long-standing collaboration with Coca-Cola since 2015 on environmental and gender-sensitive projects.
