Santo Domingo.- The Fujian General Chamber of Commerce of China in the Dominican Republic has launched a large-scale humanitarian campaign to support families affected by Tropical Storm Melissa. The initiative includes distributing 23,000 food kits across the country, valued at approximately RD$29.9 million.
Leading the effort are Zheng Shanfeng, president of the Fujian Chamber; Mars Wang, vice president; Weng Didi, secretary general; Yuek Fai Cheung, president of the Chinese Colony Center; and Rosa NG Báez, president of the Flor Para Todos Foundation. The group has already begun food deliveries in southern provinces such as San José de Ocoa, one of the hardest hit by the storm.
The operation will reach 13 regions, including Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, San Juan, Barahona, and Peravia. According to organizers, the campaign reflects the values of solidarity and gratitude that unite the Chinese and Dominican peoples. “When one faces difficulties, everyone should provide support,” said Zheng Shanfeng, reaffirming the community’s commitment to stand with the Dominican Republic in times of need.
