A 7.4-magnitude earthquake struck southern Mexico on Friday morning, with its epicenter near Ciudad Hidalgo, Chiapas, close to the Guatemala border, according to Mexico’s National Seismological Service.

The powerful quake occurred at 8:48 a.m. local time and was felt across parts of southern Mexico and neighboring areas. Authorities have not reported any fatalities or significant structural damage.

The Chiapas Civil Protection Secretariat said emergency officials remain on alert and are conducting assessments across the state while monitoring for any impacts related to the earthquake.
