If you have family members between the ages of 15 and 30, chances are you’ve already heard about Labubu.
A Labubu is a small, plush doll that’s become a trendy accessory, recently spotted on celebrities like Rihanna, Dua Lipa, and even NBA star Dillon Brooks.
Sold by Pop Mart, these dolls are part of The Monsters universe, created by Hong Kong–Belgian artist Kasing Lung. The Labubu character, one of the most popular in the lineup, is a mischievous, female monster elf known for her sharp-toothed grin and quirky charm.
A big part of Labubu’s appeal is its blind box packaging. Each doll is wrapped in foil and hidden inside a sealed box, meaning buyers won’t know which character variant (outfit, colour, or theme) they’re getting. This element of surprise has led to a social media boom, with people filming their unboxings and sharing their wish-list characters. Many have started collecting the “scary little dolls” in bulk.
One viral trend is to clip your Labubu onto a handbag or backpack, turning it into a fashion-forward charm.
Labubus typically retail for USD$22 to $40, but growing demand has driven resale prices much higher on platforms like eBay, StockX, and Poshmark. Limited and special editions often fetch premium prices.
As with any hot commodity, knockoffs have appeared on the market, often sold as “Lafufus.” To ensure authenticity, look out for key details – your Labubu should have nine teeth, come in a matte-finish box with a pastel colour palette, and include QR codes that direct you to Pop Mart’s official site.
